I did it! Fifty builds in one year. It wasn’t a simple task to achieve but it was fun to have a challenge other than the build itself. To be honest, I am not sure if I will take this challenge next year. It was a great side project to take on, but I don’t want to turn building my models into just numbers. My goal is for quality kits and not quantity. I’m sure I will hit close to the fifty mark again, but I’m not going to stress it in 2015.
The Typhoon was a great kit to put together. This build should have been completed quite a while ago. Thanks to my procrastinating, it sat until the F-15 was ready to paint.
Construction went great. There were really no huge issues to handle. The usual gap here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. I made a last minute decision to go with German markings instead of British. I’m still on the fence about that one but I think it looks good.
So that’s it. I don’t foresee the Tornado being completed in two days so I can confidently say that the Typhoon is the final build of 2014.
Congrats on the 50. Where do you find the room to display them?
As I struggle through my 2 completed (with 2 hopeful) you have inspired me to set a goal to complete 20 next year.
Happy New Year!

Thank you! I’m glad I could inspire you. I greatly look forward to seeing the P-61. I have been wanting to try the salt technique out so I want to see how yours turns out.
As far as the completed kits. The newly built ones go up on the shelf. When the shelf gets full, I rotate them into a storage bin lined with shelving paper until I can get enough space to display them all.

It looks stunning, a remarkable end to a great challenge. Maybe set your self a theme next year? Its been a great year following each one and seeing how they progress. Have yourself a relaxing few days and a happy new year!

Thank you! I thought about the theme idea. Actually, my next three builds will be a theme. I’ve got a few in mind for the year.

I’m in the final stage of finishing Marcel’s Mosquito. I should set a goal also like one new build a month with a repair job on the side.

I think German marking looks good. Looking at your work reminds me of the younger years of fond memory of building few of them.

I love the Typhoon…(being a Brit, I’m not on the fence about which markings should’ve been used! 😉).
Still, thats a great model and looks amazing. It’s a stunning aircraft to see flying…

Thank you. I figured I might ruffle a few feathers with that choice. I guess I have to build one for the Brits out there.
